Puppy problems do not fix themselves — they grow
The first months of your puppies life are the most important for shaping behavior, confidence and household manners. Without structure, puppies learn self-reliance, instead of handler reliance; the root cause of most adolescent behavioral problems. Our puppy foundations program gives you a clear path to raise a calm confident, easy to live with adult dog by 18 months.
Built on temperament, not tips
Hard-tempered puppies
Rush at the world — nibbling, testing, grabbing, forcing interactions and generally pushing boundaries to see which ones hold.
Soft-tempered puppies
Move away from the world – avoiding, hesitating, hiding behind you and rolling over to show their bellies. They become overwhelmed easily with new things.
Your puppy needs structure designed for their temperament. This is what The Canine Mind specializes in.

Common questions
- When should puppy training start?
- As soon as your puppy comes home. Structure early prevents most of the problems that otherwise show up at adolescence.
- Do you use treats, corrections, or tools?
- Food, affection, play and pressure relief, in the order that suits your puppy’s temperament. Which of those does the work depends on the dog in front of us.
- Can you help with a shy or fearful puppy?
- Yes. Soft puppies need controlled exposure and clear leadership to grow into confident adults — not more exposure, and not less.
- Can you help with a very intense puppy?
- Yes. Hard puppies need boundaries and somewhere to put the intensity, or it becomes an adolescent problem.
